Valheim FAQ

Valheim FAQ answers come from Iron Gate's 1.0 support page: old saves, Deep North generation, achievements, cheats, mods, Ocean, price, platforms, crossplay, and server size. This page restates those answers for players who searched Valheim FAQ, Valheim new world, or Valheim cheats achievements. It is not a general troubleshooting desk for account recovery.

Saves, seeds, and why a fresh world is still suggested

The support FAQ is dated in the 1.0 window and is the source for every sentence in this section. Old worlds load. Unexplored map can receive new biome generation, which is how Deep North appears on a seed that never walked north. Explored map stays as you left it, which is why a fully sailed world will not suddenly grow a new continent in the middle of a mapped ocean. Iron Gate's recommendation of a fresh start is for players who want the finale as a designed voyage rather than as a fringe on an old coastline.

Achievements do not require that fresh world, but they do require the 1.0 client. Tracking is per character and world once cheats are involved. If you test commands on a sandbox seed, keep your trophy Viking on a clean seed. Spawned items are the milder flag; they create a temporary cheat state. Most other cheat commands are the permanent lock. There is no FAQ sentence that lifts that lock later.

Server size is unchanged: 1–10 players. Dedicated-server operators should not expect a 1.0 player-cap increase. Download size is the other logistics answer: plan 4.3 GiB on Steam-class platforms, less on Xbox One, more on Mac App Store and Microsoft Store. Those figures are typical, not a promise that a patch will never grow the client.

What 1.0 will not add just because players asked

Mods, Workshop, and a public test branch were common requests. The FAQ answers no, no, and no. Ocean as a content drop was another. The FAQ answers that 1.0 does not focus there. Those are negative answers after a full official-channel read, not guesses. If a later patch adds Workshop, it will be a new FAQ. Until then, the 1.0 answer stays no.

Price is $29.99 list with regional differences, not a sale promise. Early Access owners are grandfathered. Crossplay is the compatibility win of 1.0, with the save-sync exception for Xbox and Microsoft Store PC. PlayStation 5 and Switch 2 join as new storefronts rather than as a cloud-save mesh with Steam. Account recovery still belongs to Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, or Apple, not to this wiki's inbox.

For the biome 1.0 did add, read Valheim biomes and Valheim bosses. For the trophy list, Valheim achievements. For storefront URLs, Valheim 1.0. This FAQ URL exists so those answers are not copied as a disclaimer on every other page. One FAQ block, five long answers, then the two sections above for players who need more than a snippet.

A last logistics bundle from the same FAQ: 1–10 players, no player-cap increase, typical 4.3 GiB download, cheaper on Xbox One, heavier on Mac App Store and Microsoft Store. Crossplay is the compatibility win. Save sync is the Xbox-to-Microsoft-Store-PC exception. $29.99 is the list price with regional differences. Early Access copies stay valid. Those sentences belong here so the platforms page can keep storefront URLs and the timeline, while this URL keeps the yes/no player questions. If you only needed a yes on old saves and a no on Workshop, you already have both; the rest is for the player about to buy PS5 or Switch 2 and wondering whether a Steam friend can still join.

Frequently asked questions

Do old Valheim worlds work in 1.0, and should I make a new world?

Yes, old saves remain. New biome generation only fills unexplored map, so Deep North will not overwrite a finished continent. Iron Gate still recommends a fresh start if you want the finale laid out as a new voyage. Player count stays 1–10 on that new world, and achievements begin tracking at the 1.0 download even if the Viking is old.

Do cheats lock Valheim achievements after 1.0?

Most cheat commands permanently lock that character and that world out of achievements. Spawned items create a temporary cheat state instead of the permanent flag. Achievements themselves are new at 1.0 and start when you download the update. If you already killed Eikthyr in Early Access, the FAQ says you must kill Eikthyr again for the trophy.

Are mods or Steam Workshop in Valheim 1.0?

No. 1.0 ships with no official mod support on PC or consoles and no Steam Workshop. There is also no public test branch, so everyone launches together. Treat third-party helpers that spawn items as a cheat risk for the fifty-three-row trophy list. Official content added in 1.0 is Deep North, stations, fauna, food, and achievements, not a modding SDK.

Does Valheim 1.0 include an Ocean update?

No. The FAQ states that 1.0 focuses on Deep North and does not feature Ocean-focused content, while still naming Ocean as a biome. You can sail, freeze, and hunt Sailor and Captain trophies, but there is no Ocean Forsaken in the 1.0 notes. Use the biome board if you need the nine-row list with that exception highlighted.

What does Valheim 1.0 cost, and which platforms have crossplay?

The listed price is $29.99 with regional differences. Early Access owners keep their copy. Platforms are Steam Win/Linux/Mac, Mac App Store, Humble, Microsoft Store, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. Crossplay is yes across those storefronts. Save sync is only Xbox to Microsoft Store PC. Downloads are about 4.3 GiB on most platforms, 3.0 GiB on Xbox One, and 6.5 GiB on Mac App Store and Microsoft Store.
